Biography
Carmine Pizzi has his expertise in evaluation and passion in improving the health and wellbeing. The clinical research is a translation of the applied basic research and focuses on vascular dysfunction in patients with coronary artery disease. These studies employ ultrasound, coronary angiography, positron emission tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. In particular, the effects of pharmacological interventions are investigated. Recently an important aspect of his researches is focused on depression mood and coronary artery disease. His research focuses on the role of endothelium-derived mediators (i.e. nitric oxide, reactive oxygen species, prostaglandin H2, endothelin-1 and tissue factor) in the regulation of vascular tone, platelet-vessel wall interaction, coagulation as well as vascular structure under physiological conditions and in atherosclerosis. In addition, similar projects focus on the pathogenesis of angina of normal coronary angiograms, stable angina and acute coronary syndrome.
