Interventional Cardiology:

Interventional cardiology is a special branch of cardiology that deals specifically with the catheter based treatment of structural heart diseases. An interventional cardiologist is the one who have an extra experience of one to two years of additional education and training in diagnosing and treating cardiovascular disease as well as congenital and structural heart conditions through catheter-based procedures, such as angioplasty and stenting

Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is the one of the main reasons of death in exercising young athletes, and is generally set off by problems such as structural heart disorders or electrical circuitry issues which are not generally found during routine physical examinations. Most of the conditions that cause sudden cardiac death in young athletes are determined by an electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG), a non-invasive test which calculates the electrical activity of the heart.

 Hypertension is High blood pressure, which is a serious medical condition. It happens when the force of the blood pumping through your arteries is too strong. In childhood  a disorder which involves both the heart and lungs problems, called Pediatric Cardiopulmonary disease. Epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) is the visceral fat deposit around the heart and is commonly increased in obese subjects. EAT is related to Cardio Metabolic risk factors and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in adults, but this relationship is not well known in children. (MI) Myocardial infarction is rare in childhood and adolescence. 

Children usually have either an acute inflammatory condition of the coronary arteries diseases or an anomalous origin of the left coronary artery (LCA). Peripheral vascular diseases are circulation disorders that affect blood vessels outside of the heart and brain. In PVD, blood vessels are narrowed. Narrowing is usually caused by arteriosclerosis.

Molecular cardiology is a new and fast-growing area of cardiovascular medicine that aims to apply molecular biology techniques for the mechanistic investigation, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease. As an emerging discipline, it has changed conceptual thinking of cardiovascular development, etiology and pathophysiology. Although molecular cardiology is still at a very early stage, it has opened a promising avenue for understanding and controlling cardiovascular disease. With the rapid development and application of molecular biology techniques, scientists and clinicians are closer to curing heart diseases that were thought to be incurable 20 years ago.

There clearly is a need for a more thorough understanding of the molecular mechanisms of cardiovascular diseases to promote the advancement of stem cell therapy and gene therapy for heart diseases. The present paper briefly reviews the state-of-the-art techniques in the following areas of molecular cardiology gene analysis in the diseased heart; transgenic techniques in cardiac research; gene transfer and gene therapy for cardiovascular disease; and stem cell therapy for cardiovascular diseases.

The term "Diabetic heart disease" (DHD) means heart disease that occurs in people who have high content of carbohydrate in blood. In comparison with diabetic and non-diabetic people, diabetic people are at a higher risk of heart disease and have additional symptoms of heart disease.  So they may develop heart disease at a younger age and may have more severe heart diseases..

The scientific goal of this track is to understand the underlying causes and pathophysiology of obesity, diabetes, and associated metabolic diseases, as well as pursuing effective and safe interventions and therapeutics. Investigators in this division also have a special emphasis on women's health and on the developmental programming of metabolic diseases.  This includes expertise in the central nervous system that controls appetite and energy expenditure, pancreas function, and adipose tissue function.  Our investigators utilize a broad array of research tools including non-invasive imaging, complex whole animal studies on physiology and behavior, and in vitro and ex vivo techniques at Heart Conferences 2019

Even though we are a small division at this time, currently consisting of 5 core scientists and 4 staff scientists, we have over $7 million (direct costs) of funding active during 2012-2013, with 70% coming from NIH and the rest from industry collaborations.

12.Track: Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions:

Coronary Heart disease is treated by a non-surgical procedure called percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), in which the narrowed coronary arteries are treated. During the procedure the blood vessels are visualised using the coronary catheterization by using X-Ray imaging.

Blood vessels are kept open by the intervention devices like stents. Thus the coronary interventions like Stents, Angioplasty will restore the blood flow during the Chest pain or Heart attack caused by the Coronary Heart diseases.

17.Track:Cardiac Diagnostic Test:

 The cardiac diagnostic tests are being discovered to understand the disease, injury, and congenital (present at birth) and other acquired abnormalities of the heart. Few diagnostic tests like Electrocardiogram (ECG), Stress test(also called tread mill or exercise ECG), Transesopheagal echocardiogram, Holter monitor, Loop recorder are used to visualise the damaged heart tissues and blood vessels in cardiovascular diseases.

In Electro physiology study, the irregular heart rhythms are examined by fixing the insulated electric catheters in the large vein of the upper leg and thread into the heart. The other test like Tilt Table test, involves the patient being placed in a table with foot support and table is tilted upward and downwards and the patient’s blood pressure, heart beat and pulse rate are monitored throughout during the process. Cardiology diagnostic tests are the methods of identify the heart conditions associated with pathologic heart functions.

19.Track: Devices/ CRT/ICD/ Surgery:

Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) is an effective therapy associated with the heart failure and dysynchrony diagnosed as a prolonged QRS duration. Improved exercise tolerance, reduced remodeling (reduction in LV chamber size and measures of mitral regurgitation), reduced mortality are beneficial for the therapy.

The pacemaker, defibrillators, ventricular assist device, Biosensors are the heart devices used in treatment of heart diseases.  These devices are used in correcting some heart disease conditions effectively on a long-term basis. They may also act as a transition for the more invasive treatment plan, such as a heart transplant. Implanted medical devices may be recommended when other treatments don’t work.

Ventricular assist device (VAD) is a mechanical pump device that is used to support the blood flow and heart function in the people who have weak hearts, takes blood from a lower chamber of heart and helps in pumping to the body including the vital organs just as a healthy heart would.
